Pastor

Peace be with you!

What a year 2008 turned out to be! Governments changed, economies tumbled, markets collapsed …as did much hope and confidence. But our Christian confidence and enduring hope remains strong.

St. Bartholomew Parish is a community of Catholic Christians, a part of the Archdiocese of Miami; we celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ, Son of God, risen from the dead.

We are a Full Gospel Church, proclaiming and living by the truth of Scripture, a Sacramental Church, celebrating Christ in the Eucharist and in all his sacraments, a Servant Church, ministering to other’s needs in love, peace and justice.

We ourselves recommit our lives to Christ in faith and love, and we invite others to discover for themselves the power, peace, and hope of life in Christ.

We especially make this invitation to those who do not have a regular church community where they worship and also those who may have been apart from the Church community for a time. We urge you to take advantage of the variety of groups and ministries here at St. Bartholomew’s. Everyone, single or married, old or young, people of different languages and races –– all belong to our one parish family in Christ.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Reverend Paul Vuturo
Pastor

Happy Easter
“Christ is risen!” “Indeed, He is risen!”
Christians have used this formula of greeting for centuries. Through these words they express solidarity and support for each other in their shared life of faith in Jesus Christ.

The current struggles of the human race around the world highlight the general pain and suffering that characterize our existence. Human life on its own has no ultimate hope. We cannot depend on growth or development, evolution or enlightenment, to ever bring us a final salvation. Death in the end swallows each of us.

Easter celebrates that God has reached toward us in the risen Jesus. His resurrection shows us how God wants to raise and transform all of us and bring us to the fullness of life, love and joy in his kingdom. We thank God for this risen Jesus. We thank God for all the sisters and brothers in our parish family who support and strengthen each other in the following of Christ.
Welcome from our Pastor, Father Paul
Welcome to the web site of the St. Bartholomew Catholic Community. We hope you will find this site helpful, and that you will discover a little about our parish. Our hope is that as you browse our site, you will notice that we are a multicultural parish that strives in as many ways as possible to proclaim, to grow in and to share in the goodness and kindness of Jesus our Savior. We strive to be a welcoming, family friendly community.
Parish Registration
Interested in joining our Parish? As our parish faith life grows and develops, we are happy to welcome those who wish to register as new members of our parish family. Simply stop by the rectory to pick up registration forms and information. Once a month after the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, a special program, FRIENDSHIP SUNDAY, welcomes new parishioners to our community. Over coffee and cake we introduce them to our parish and offer them many different opportunities to become involved in the myriad of programs and ministries that St. Bartholomew supports. Friendship Sunday is sponsored by the parish Stewardship Committee. Call the rectory office for the next date.
Parish History
St. Bartholomew Parish, like our Lord himself, had a humble beginning. It was born in the Miramar fire house on August 16, 1962. In those days, the town of Miramar was hardly developed west of University Drive. Today, there are over 2000 registered families, there is a parochial school which educates about 300 students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade, and there is a robust religious education program that serves the needs of over an additional 450 students.

History of our Patron Saint, St. Bartholomew
What is known for certain about Saint Bartholomew can be found in the Scriptures. He is one of the 12 apostles. His name, a patronymic, means "son of Tolomai" and scholars believe he is the same person as Nathanael mentioned in John, who says he is from Cana and that Jesus called him an "Israelite . . . incapable of deceit."

The Art and Beauty of St. Bartholomew Church
Stained glass windows add beauty to a church, while also adding an element of mystery. Our windows embody messages of faith that speak to God's presence among us. Stained glass windows were added to St. Bartholomew in different stages beginning with the major church renovation in the nineties through 2001 when the bell tower and covered walkways were added. Here you can find a window-by-window description of the images and learn about other artwork adorning the Church such as the Fisherman Sculpture.
