St. Bartholomew

Women's Club

The St. Bartholomew Women's Club is involved in a variety of social, spiritual and service oriented projects that benefit the parish and the community at-large. Their object is to unite the women of this parish through the adoration of Almighty God and devotion of the Blessed Mother, to serve as the medium through which the women of the parish may speak and act as a unit in all matters of public interest, and to render financial assistance to the parish.
Mary

The women of our parish meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in the parish hall for a business meeting, followed by a program and refreshments. Membership is open to all ladies, Catholic and non-Catholic, who are interested in furthering the spiritual and temporal welfare of the St. Bartholomew parish.

St. Bart’s Women’s Club has been serving our community since 1963. The club is a member of the South Broward District of the Miami Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women and the National Council of Catholic Women.  Throughout the years, we have won many awards and many women have contributed to the service and success of our organization.

The commitment and purpose of our organization is a great deal more than social. We reach out to our parish, our parish school, the community, and foreign missions; as well as plan spiritual activities together as a club. We are assisted with some of our programs by our local chapter of the Knights of Columbus Council #6032, and applaud and support their programs.

In September we conduct our annual membership drive on two successive Sundays, followed by our first Open House meeting. We extend an invitation to ALL women of the Parish to stop in and “check us out”.  We meet the third Thursday of every month, from September to May, at 7:30 PM in the parish hall, and feed more than our souls when all our members feast at our occasional covered dish meetings!

Please read the following paragraphs that describe some of the programs and events that we take on every year.

The club chairs many commissions, makes donations to our parish and our archdiocese, and serves many groups.  In our own parish, members volunteer and help clean the church and prepare the altar for weekend masses.  We support Red Ribbon Week and purchase ribbons for all our school children, catechists, and youth groups.  We collect Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education as a fundraiser for our parish school.  We host a “Welcome Back Breakfast’ for school parents in September, and volunteer time and ice cream for our annual Parish Picnic.  We run a food booth at our annual Church carnival.

We raise funds for international causes such as Water for Life and the Madonna Plan, which supports underprivileged countries, and locally for dialysis patients, and people needing eyeglasses that can’t afford these goods and services.  We accomplish this by collecting spare change, used stamps, used eyeglasses, soda tabs, etc., and the donations are exchanged for goods or services for various missions.  We support the good works of the Miami Archdiocese by helping with meals every time our parish hosts an Engagement Encounter.

HALLOWEEN PARTY   This event is a fun undertaking for our club - over 300 children are treated to bags of candy, refreshments, costume contests, and games with prizes. The party allows the children of the parish, school and community to enjoy the fun of Halloween in a safe, secure environment.

FASHION SHOW   Our women volunteer to model new fashions, while guests enjoy lunch and many wonderful door and raffle prizes.  This social event is a fundraiser channeled towards the school - a $600.00 scholarship is presented to a female graduate who will continue her education at a Catholic high school.

ASH WEDNESDAY DINNER Aside from serving a great meatless Lenten meal, we invite everyone to ‘break bread’ together before or after the afternoon and evening Ash Wednesday masses, or opt for a take-out dinner.  Our main objective is not to profit from the dinner sales, but help by offering a convenient and inexpensive way to eat dinner around hectic schedules.

HOLIDAY RECEPTIONS Our club sponsors an evening reception after the Easter Vigil mass, and co- sponsors with the Knight of Columbus a Thanksgiving reception after the morning Thanksgiving mass, as another way of bringing our parish community together.

RESPECT LIFE The club sells corsages on Mother’s Day, whose proceeds are earmarked for our community Respect Life office, a pro-life organization.  We support the annual Respect Life Walk and the National Night of Prayer for Life, and throw a baby shower to collect baby items for needy mothers.

SOUTH FLORIDA HOSPITAL DINNER Once a year our members prepare a full meal and transport it to a group of local hospital patients.  Most of the food is donated by local establishments, and the club organizes music and gifts for these patients; a truly rewarding experience.

HOLIDAY BAZZAAR & BAKE SALE The club makes coffee and sells wonderful baked goods during the morning masses, as well as sells raffle tickets for beautiful Christmas items.  Proceeds fund many of our annual programs, receptions, and expenses.

COME JOIN US AND FEED YOUR HEART & SOUL!
