2012 Archbishop's Charities and Development Drive

The theme of the 2012 ABCD (Archbishop's Charities and Development Drive) is "One in Charity (Caritas)" which is "One in Christian love" which emphasizes care for the well-being of our brothers and sisters (all humanity). The Archdiocese is more than a collection of churches, it is a unified group, under the Archbishop, that makes up the Body of Christ. We share a deep spiritual bond. We are a family, we are brothers and sisters in Christ. The phrase that has been attached to the theme "One in Charity" is that "being a Christian is not a burden, but a gift." We can best understand this phrase if we say "raising a family or being part of a family is not a burden but a gift."
The economic, mental and physical challenges that parents confront when raising a family are tremendous. Many sacrifices have to be made. For example, the things that the rest of the family may normally enjoy may have to be sacrificed to pay the medical bills of a sick child. No one wants their child or their brother or sister to die. Everyone is happy when the sick child recovers.
"Raising a family or being part of a family is not a burden but a gift." Likewise, being a Christian is not a burden but a gift. If we love others like Christ loves us, no one is unimportant, and no sacrifice is too great for the well-being of our brothers and sisters who need help. It is our Christian duty to reach out to others in need.
The ABCD offers us an opportunity to fulfill this obligation. Our contribution, relative to our available income and resources, will measure how much we understand that through the eyes of faith we are one family in Christ.
I urge everyone who has not yet made a pledge to the ABCD to do so as soon as possible. It is important that we show solidarity for this worthy cause. God knows each of our individual situations so the size of the contribution is not as important as full participation. I wish to draw attention to 6 year old Rhendell, who pledged and donated five dollars last Sunday. He is like the widow in the Gospel who donated two copper coins from the little she had. I wish that all the parishioners of St. Bartholomew could be like this young boy. We would not have a problem reaching our goal of approximately $105,000.
Please be loving, caring, and generous, and God will bless you abundantly. Let us continue to build up the Body of Christ at St. Bartholomew.

Thank you for the wonderful support of our St. Vincent dePaul Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the St. Bartholomew parish community for its generous support during the past year. The Thanksgiving drive served 49 families with a complete Thanksgiving meal. The Christmas Angel Tree provided gifts for 80 children, each child received 3 gifts.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul exists solely to serve the poor and needy, however, we receive all of our funds from our parish community. A special thank you to Father Andrew for his tireless advocacy on behalf of the less fortunate. Father Andrew supports us in all of our endeavors. Last but not least, thank you to Mrs. Brown and the children in the Religious Education program. In closing, we would like you to know that your thoughtfulness truly makes a difference in the lives of many people in our area. Thank you again for your dedication to the poor.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society St. Bartholomew Conference

Please continue to remember St. Vincent de Paul society throughout the year. Donations of food for the Food Pantry can be dropped off at the rectory or in the donation box in the entrance to church and monetary donations are always welcome. Please remember to use your monthly St. Vincent dePaul envelope in your regular envelope package. The Society exists only with your generosity. Thank you and God bless you!

Joining the Catholic Church - Adults Learning The Faith

Did you ever think about becoming Catholic? Is there a friend or a member of the family with whom you could share your faith? Do you or someone else have a lot of questions seeking answers.

Try us… ask, listen, share, grow. We are anxious to share with others our special Catholic vision of faith and love in Christ. We do this through our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) or Catechumenate.

RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults – is not like going back to school, because RCIA is more of a process of growth than a project in school. RCIA means learning not just with the head, but most importantly with the heart.

Our Catechumenate program, also called RCIA, can benefit:
• Those unbaptized persons who want to become Christians.
• Those baptized non-Catholic who want to join the Catholic community.
• Adult Catholics who have not yet received First Communion or completed their Sacraments of Initiation.
